An opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal to join a traditional and reputable law firm in Exeter, working within the firm's Family department. This opportunity would offer the chance to be supporting two fee earners, specifically within the area of public child protection law, but would also give the opportunity to support the wider team within this multi-service firm. In an ideal world, the successful candidate will have experience of working as a Paralegal within Family. However, the firm are also open to considering someone at either graduate or LPC level, who can demonstrate a genuine long-term interest within this area of law.


Tasks include:

  • Supporting two Partners in prioritising matters to ensure efficiency
  • Assist in taking instruction from new clients
  • Opening files, including legal aid applications
  • Liaising with clients, courts and other legal professionals in a professional manner
  • Attending court hearings and other meetings
  • Responding to client queries
  • Ensuring files are up to date with the relevant case notes and documents
  • Preparing and drafting of documents needed to support cases
  • Researching facts that may help with the cases
  • General other duties as required


Skills and experience required:

  • Ideally, some family-based experience will be of great benefit
  • Knowledge of family law and legal aid processes will be an advantage
  • Self-motivated and organised
  • Ability to make quick and effective decisions
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good time-management skills
  • Excellent IT skills, including use of the Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PDFs)
